Ligustrum ovalifolium is a vigorous, semi-evergreen privet that forms a dense, reliable hedge for urban or suburban sites. Thriving in full sun or light shade and tolerant of a wide range of soils, it produces clusters of small white summer flowers followed by glossy black berries. The dark green foliage often persists year-round, though some leaf drop may occur in harsher winters. Expect an eventual size of around 3m in height and 3m in spread when mature, making it a versatile choice for screening and formal hedging.
Feeding time: Spring (MarchApril) Trimming time: Late summer, after flowering (August to early September). If a very crisp line is required, a light touch-up in late spring (May) can be done, noting this may reduce flowers.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
