Symphyotrichum laeve ‘Arcturus’ is an effective foliage plant that also offers lovely lilac-mauve flowers. Tall shiny black stems and near-black leaves provide a striking contrast to the soft flowers that bloom from September to October. Reaching a height of 1.3 metres, ‘Arcturus’ adds both height and drama to garden borders.
Bred at the RHS Chiswick in 1902 and rediscovered in Ireland in 1990, this aster thrives in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Its unique foliage and vibrant flowers make it an excellent choice for adding contrast and depth to garden designs.
